RJ Thorne

Whilst by day I work as a university data analyst, at night I like to mess around building playable 3D worlds ('maps') for id Software's Quake. I've been doing it on and off since my mid teens, and despite several extended hiatuses I can't seem to stay away.

Quake was 3 years old when I started mapping, and was considered an 'old game' even then. Yet some 25 years later it still boasts a thriving online community of mappers, modders and players, some of whom weren't even born when the game came out. This is great, and a big part of the reason I'm still making stuff.

In truth, I'm not happy with the amount of stuff I've put out over the years; my portfolio should be much bigger considering the timespan. This is partly due to getting bogged down in various big projects that either never got finished or finished without me, and partly due to wasting energy on silly speedmaps, deathmatch maps and 100 brush maps when I was younger (not included here).

In 2023 I started 'Operation Get Shit Finished' with the aim of getting all my unfinished scraps polished up and turned into playable content. I'll be adding a WIP section very soon.
