Installation

Unzip this archive into your default maps folder so that
"quotes" folder would be alongside "id1". Then, either type
game quotes
in the console ingame and then start a new game, or select
quotes
mod in mod selection in Ironwail (most preferred, I'd say).

Design / style / gameplay

While I tried to stay as much "vanilla" Quake as possible, I
most definitely failed to avoid the influence of S.T.A.L.K.E.R.,
with its scarcity of resources, looking around before jumping
into the fray being some of the signature features of the game.
So, you will see that some of my maps "lack" resources, open
spaces, and the actual vanilla Quake FEEL (run, gun, strafe,
grenade-jump etc.). I tried to guide the player as to what to do
with text prompts that also drive the "story" behind each level.
I hope it won't turn your experience of my maps into a "read
instead of shoot" fest :D and I hope you'll guess all of the
quotes - from pop culture, mostly, some obvious as heck, some -
not so much, some pretty obscure. "Old, not obsolete" (c)

A rather "technical" map called "limbo" is only here to rid the
player of armor, weapons, and ammo before any next level you
might want to play. Yet, it is a part of the "story": you seem
to be progressing, but once you've beaten the level, you are
stripped of your achievements only to start anew, just your
faithful shotgun (and axe!) at your disposal.

-=Weapons=-

I deliberately left out the Rocket Launcher as I think it's the
least "lovecraftian" weapon. Super Nailgun is also found once
or twice, there are no huge massacres you'd need it for.

-=Difficulty=-

Most maps are designed for Hard difficulty (you could guess from
the mystart map itself), some even don't have any other setting.
Scarcity of resources cause you to manoeuvre, instigate
infighting, be attentive to your environment, hunt for secrets
etc.

-=Secrets=-

I absolutely and profoundly LOVED secrets in id games since
Wolf3d, even as they weren't something too spectacular back
then. Some of my secrets help you progress through the map
(classic extra resource closet), some are for decor. You'll know
'em when you find them. I tried to put hints to those without
making them super obvious like an odd texture on a well lit wall
or something.

-="Art"=-

I mostly used quake101.wad and played with incomplete / flipped
/ cut'n'compiled textures to make "something new". A sort of
scrap book / collage approach that doesn't rely on new, hires
etc. marvellous Makkon textures (I'll definitely get to those
some time later).
