* Description *

A short Episode 2 inspired map. Mostly used the textures laid out by E2M3 and E2M4.
For the textures of the floor I took a lot of inspiration from Sock's Map Center Retro Jam 1 entry with the alternating blue and brown bricks for stairs and alternating floor tiles.
For the underground sections of the map (after dropping down from the silver key) I took a few cues from DOPA E5M3 with the metal trims and vents in the walls.

I was gonna put in a couple spawns near the end but ended up avoiding that since it is supposed to be an episode 2 jam, but I did include a pair of vores in the level in the spirit of E2M6.
I used a bit of coloured lighting, although not stricly vanilla I toned down the saturation from what I would typically use, just to give it a more vanilla flavor.
I feel it actually turned out better than I had expected, really happy with the lighting in this map.

The jam went fairly smoothly, I built out most of the map in the initial 2 days with very little sleep and made small adjustments the following days.
Luckily just prior to the jam I had previously been working on an Episode 2 inspired Wizmet level so I had a good grasp on what textures I should use and what sort of map I wanted to make (stay tuned for that one, it will be bundled in its own episode).
That really allowed me to map quickly without much brainstorming needed. I basically stuck to grid 64 for this one and was able to bang out a floorplan fairly quickly.
I'm usually a very slow mapper but I tried to spend as much time in the editor and less time compiling and testing as possible.
In previous maps I feel I was very inefficient with testing and would do another compile with any new change.
This time I after testing I would make a big list of things that needed to be fixed/changed and then once the list was done would I do another recompile to test again. I feel like this approach saved me a lot of time during the jam.

I also learned alot about using developer 1 and squashing errors in my map. Special thanks to Sock and Sprony for helping with that.

I also had a heck of a time getting some buttons working that are sitting on a 45 degree wall. It seems like it works fine in some engines but in others the button just goes through the wall so I developed a hacky little trick:
I ended up just putting a still texture of a pressed button on the wall behind it. So when the button passes through the wall, it still looks fine. A bit janky, but if it works, it works.

Hope you enjoy the map and thank you for reading.
